What are the tours like?
Pure joy! Truly though, our tours are designed to create wonderful memories through private, guided bicycle rides in central New Jersey with a focus on safety, fun, and beauty. Our tours are all private, so you get exactly the experience that will delight your group! No dealing with the slow person holding you back, or the ultracompetitive pressuring everyone to hurry up. And we can custom the tour to fit your interests, start/stop time, speed, and physical fitness level. We base our tours on set routes that typically run for 3 to 4 hours, with plenty of stops for pictures, storytelling, and rest. Tours include a stop for food and beverages at a local eating place (such as a restaurant or winery) or for a treat (such as for ice cream) depending on the particular tour. On most tours the food and beverages are at the finish.

How do I book a tour?
Find the tour you would like to do on the Tours page on our website and then click on “Book Your Tour” to start the process.

How far in advance do I have to book a tour?
All of our tours are subject to the availability of our guides. We ask that you contact us at least one week before your planned tour date so we can ensure we have a guide for your tour. Given tours require custom planning to ensure the best experience for you, all logistical details need to be discussed and confirmed with your guide 72 hours in advance of the tour start time.

Are there a minimum or maximum number of people for my tour?
There is a minimum of 2 people for each tour. No maximum. We will bring in multiple guides to help manage large groups.

Where do you run tours?
We offer a number of tours in areas stretching across central New Jersey, from the Delaware River to Sandy Hook. Check out our Tours page for more specific information on each tour.

What sorts of people go on your tours?
All sorts of people who can ride a bike, that’s who! We have had guests from the ages of 7 to 70. We have groups in size from 2 to 30+. We have had couples, families, and groups of friends. You can read their reviews of their tours here.

What do you mean by your tours are private?
We run the tour you book exclusively for you and the rest of the people in your group, without strangers. Once you sign up for a tour, it books out so no one else can join. We provide a personal guide who will work with you before and during your tour to customize it to suit the needs and interests of your group. The private nature of our tours also allows your group to ride at the pace they like, and to stop as often, and for as how long, as they like.

What is BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike)?
Given the wide variety of riders, we find it impossible to have a stock of bicycles to fit everyone who might book a tour. Plus we want you to be riding and enjoy le joie de vivre again and again after your tour! We ask that you make sure your bike is in proper working order. If you are unsure about the condition of your bike, we recommend you consult with a bicycle shop. We are happy to recommend shops to you and to help arrange rentals so it's easy and seamless for you.

I don’t have a bike. Can I rent one?
Yes! There are shops that rent bicycles in some (but not all) areas where we run our tours. Where there are shops, though, rental availability may vary. We ask that you contact us in advance of booking to determine if rentals are available for your tour. We may be able to obtain a discount from the posted rate. Please note rental charges are not included in the price of the tour – you will pay for any rentals directly with the shop.

Can I use my e-bike?
Yes! Given the wide variety of e-bikes out there, we ask that you contact us in advance of booking to determine if your particular e-bike is suitable for your tour. In general, if an e-bike is an assisted pedal bike, yes. Those e-bikes that the guides can't keep up with on their human-powered bike, well, you can imagine the trouble you might find yourself in without the guide!

Do I need to wear a helmet?
A bicycle helmet is mandatory for each rider. Other types of helmets, such as for other sports, are not accepted by our insurance and can't be used. If you do not have a bicycle helmet, please let us know in advance of your tour as we may have some spares available your guide can bring on the day of your tour.

Who are your guides?
Our guides are experienced cyclists from the local area who know the safe roads, great spots for photo opportunities, and the best places to eat! Your guide will map out the route for your tour so you do not need to worry about following directions – you can just follow your guide and enjoy the ride!

How in shape do I have to be?
We have tours to suit all types of riders. Our tours are rated from Easy to Moderate in terms of level of difficulty. In general, “Easy” tours are for casual cyclists, are on flat terrain, and are mostly on bike trails. “Moderate” tours are for recreational cyclists, include some hills (never too long or too steep), and are mostly on backroads with light traffic. If you have any questions or are unsure which level is right for you, contact us and we will use our experience to help you choose the tour that is right for you.

When do tours run?
While the website offers a 9am or 1pm start, the truth is, whenever you want! We do not have a set schedule of tours. Rather, we customize our tours to your preferences. If there is a tour you would like to do on a certain date, contact us and let us know. If we have a guide available for that date and time, then your tour is a go! We have found the months from April through October offer the best weather and scenery for cycling.

Do you offer discounts?
Yes! We offer discounts for groups of 4 people or more on one tour that book at the same time. There are no discounts for children, but if they are in a trailer or on a bike seat there is no charge for them. Think of it as price per bike.

What if I have to cancel my tour?
No problem! We know life can be unpredictable. We will work with you to reschedule a cancelled tour. If we are unable to reschedule your tour, you will receive a full refund.

What if I have to change the date or time of my tour?
Again, no problem! We will work with you to reschedule a cancelled tour. If we are unable to reschedule your tour, you will receive a full refund.

Can children come and is there a different charge for children?
Yes! Think "pay per vehicle." Children in bike seat are fine to be free of charge, but as parents well know, kids are the ones actually running the show. They add an extra element of planning, adapting, and managing and many out-eat their parents! Any child in their own "vehicle" i.e. a trailer, tag-along, or their own bike is priced as a full participant no matter the age.

What should I do to prepare for my tour?
We will be in contact with you in the days before your tour to help your prepare, such as what to bring and when to arrive.
